Musicians
often are asked to sing certain songs again and again. Dolan
Ellis is no exception, but for him the range of favorites is
extensive, and they vary tremendously by pace and subject and
style.
A
very popular request is "Tuba
City" from
fans who visited his "Tuba City Truck Stop and Country
Club in Scottsdale." Newer fans tend to request "Geronimo" or "The
Bombing of Naco, Arizona." Almost
every song on these pages has been a request at one show or
another, and many of the songs can boast hundreds or even thousands
of requests. You can read a description of many of the
original songs and even watch short videos of some of those
on the Original Songs page.
Dolan
has written more than 300 songs, mostly about Arizona
and/or the American Southwest, about the people, places,
events, occupations. These
songs convey the special understanding and feeling Dolan has
for his adopted state of Arizona. .
Dolan
also carefully selects songs he didn't write, and
arranges them to make them his own. There is a separate
listing of those cover songs as well, which you can access
when you click here.
There are also video clips of many of Dolan's cover songs. And for those recorded on CD, there are audio clips as well.
Dolan offers several themes for his concerts, especially those at the Arizona Folklore Preserve. Check out the "Themes" link
to see how the songs are sometimes organized into specific
shows.
There
is now a page on the special Dolan Ellis brand of humor. Dolan
feels it is so important to include humor in his presentations, much to his fans' delight. On
the humor page, you'll be able to
sample some of the remarks and antics that keep his audiences
laughing.
