Wind Song (a Travis Edmonson Original)

Dolan Ellis & Travis Edmonson at Travis' first visit to the Arizona Folklore Prserve (August 2001)

Dolan fell in love with this song the first time he heard it, at a jam session during a big Arizona Folklore Preserve weekend.  He knew all of Travis' older music, but this one was a new-found treasure, written around 1982.

Wind Song is one of the most recent in Dolan's repertorie, and his audiences are delighted with the addition.  It's exactly the sort of song that Dolan searches for--one that has a great sound and more importantly, one whose lyrics are meaningful.  Dolan and Travis share a love of the Arizona back country, so it's no wonder that Travis wrote this song and Dolan chose to sing it.

Wind Song

If you get some kind of longin’ to see a sunset hit the peaks
And you love some wild places on the desert or the creeks
And the mountains seem to talk to you when nothing has for weeks
This is for you
This song is for you

CHORUS

This is the wind song of the canyon lands
The mesas and the flats
Strong medicine from the medicine men
And the men who wear big hats
High above our towns and cities there’s a wind that’s wild and free
Part of that song’s still goin’ strong in the hearts of you and me
Wind song, blowin’ through my mind
Wind song, makin’ me feel fine
Wind song, Lord I love to hear her whine

If vaquero and caballo seem to have a special ring
And you like the sound of hoof beats and the music of a spring
If you like the squeak of saddles and you’ve heard coyotes sing
This is for you
This song is for you

(CHORUS)

If you think there’s somethin’ holy iIn the seasons and the dawn
In the quiet of a campfire or the beauty of a fawn
If you love this old wide desert and you long for things that’s gone
This is for you
This song is for you

(CHORUS)
